Anyone that knows me knows I am very passionate about pregnancy, birth and babies. I’ve always wanted to shoot a birth, and when I posted on Facebook I would like to photograph a birth, I was amazed how many friends were interested. My friend Mandi reached out and it was official, I was going to photograph the birth of their little girl entering this world! I was so excited and nervous all at the same time. It was my first birth – and I didn’t want to mess it up!
I had my own little one who was nursing at the time, so I ended up having to take a few trips back and forth to the hospital when she was in labor – due to her labor suddenly stopping (haha) – but it all worked out and I was there to capture little Lucy’s arrival. It truly was one of the most amazing experiences, and I quickly knew it was something I wanted to photograph more of. Births.
Aside from your wedding day, it’s one of the most important days of your life. It should be documented. By a birth photographer. Hiring a birth photographer allows your significant other to be completely focused on his momma to be, and be a PART of the birth story, as he should be. If he was behind the lens, he would not be in the photos, and that would be a shame!
These are moments you will want to look back on forever. As a mom of four myself, looking back I think it would have been really neat to have a birth photographer capturing my babies entering this world. Laboring moms are focused on bringing a little human into the world, we aren’t really aware of all the precious moments that go on during that time and how neat to look back and be able to see them all.
KHP is now officially offering birth photography, and I’m very excited. More details can be found on my website at http://www.keriharrisonphotography.com.
